Head Start is a comprehensive preschool program that serves children from income-eligible families. We serve families throughout Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, McCreary, Pulaski, Russell, Taylor and Wayne counties in a manner that does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age or disabilities. Head Start provides at no cost:


 Developmentally appropriate preschool classes.

 Meals during class sessions.

 Payment for child¨s physical and dental exam, if no medical coverage or other resources are available to the family.

 Wellness screenings: speech, hearing, vision and motor & cognitive development.

 Support, resources and information to families as requested with regard to education, housing, health, incarceration, employment, etc.

 Parent meetings held monthly to discuss topics of interest to parents and/or guardians.

 Parent training opportunities.


Parents participate by:


 Bringing the child to the classroom and promptly picking up the child on class days, if bussing is not available.

 Being available for visits in your home to work on child and family goals.

 Obtaining needed physical and dental exams; updating immunizations for their child.

 Assisting in the classroom, kitchen, class preparation of materials and/or office-type work.

 Attending monthly parent meetings and other exciting training opportunities.



ALL information you share about your family, including the amount and source of your income, is CONFIDENTIAL.



- After you submit your Pre-Enrollment request, you will be contacted by your local Head Start staff to begin the official application
- To complete the application process, you will be asked to provide proof of birth and 12 months income verification.
- Children must be at least 3 years old and not older than 5 to enroll in the program. Selection criteria are based on age, income,
  disabilities and other factors that demonstrate a need for services.
- Children are selected to fill classes for the upcoming school year during the summer. If your child is accepted, you will receive an
  Acceptance Letter. We accept applications year-round to fill vacancies as they occur.
